Detoxification (“detox” for short); the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including, but not limited to, the human body; additionally, can refer to the period of withdrawal during which an organism returns to homeostasis after long-term use of an addictive substance.
Is your fear of going through Detoxification keeping you from even attempting to get sober?
Does the very word “Detox” conjure up images of being strapped to a hospital bed – shaking, sweating and racked by fever?
Is Detox something you’re determined to avoid at all costs?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, you’re not alone. Detox is probably the single most challenging phase of the entire recovery experience. For good reason, too. The process of ridding your body of the alcohol or chemicals to which it has grown accustomed over years of continual use (and/or abuse) is a physically demanding one. The psychological effects which accompany this process are easily as demanding, sometimes even more so. As one of our clients put it recently, “Detox sucks.” And they were right. If anyone tells you otherwise, they’re either lying, or they don’t know better.
OUR SAFE, COMFORTABLE DETOX AT PVRC
At Pacific View Recovery, you will be guided gently through your detox right from the start of the process. Our PVRC staff members have over 100 years combined experience in the field of treating alcoholism and addiction, each one prepared to make every effort to ensure that you will experience a happy, comfortable, and safe detox while under our care.
We understand that Detox has come to be viewed through an intimidating prism of terror and anxiety. Especially by the addict contemplating putting him or herself through the experience. After all, not only do they have an emotional connection to their drug of choice; but they seem to understand, on a cellular level, that their body will not respond happily when deprived of this substance. In fact, the body will react strongly (and in some cases violently) by fighting back with a wide array of symptoms, ranging from unpleasant to downright dangerous, depending upon the severity of the drug use/abuse involved.
THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT DETOX
We know. There’s a lot of doom and gloom to digest about detox. But there is good news, too. When approached mindfully – as we do here at Pacific View Recovery; conducted in a safe, controlled, nurturing environment – like the one for which the PVRC facility has been specifically designed; and professionally-supervised by a responsible, experienced, compassionate staff – check, check, check!, the detoxification process is actually quite manageable. The bottom line is, you’ll be kept safe and comfortable throughout your detox at PVRC – and you will emerge better equipped, and readier than ever, to plunge more deeply into the rewarding work of recovery.
A SHARED BURDEN; A REWARDING RESULT
As mentioned above, detox can be challenging. But when that burden is shared with the caring PVRC team, who’ve guided thousands of people through detoxes in the past, the burden becomes bearable. And even, in some cases, rewarding.
After all, if you want to prove to yourself that you’re serious about getting sober and cleaning up your life, what better way to begin than by flushing the drugs and alcohol out of your system?
CLEAR EYES, FULL HEARTS… A SUCCESSFUL DETOX
In some cases, an “effective” Detox begins with the aid of carefully prescribed medication. Upon your arrival at PVRC, we will conduct a thorough assessment of your condition, which will include a consultation with an independent Physician. If a Detox period is deemed appropriate, it may also be determined that medication is similarly warranted.
Naturally, this medication will be administered only when necessary, and only under the supervision of the consulting Physician and the PVRC staff. The end result may very well mean that you will sleep – deeply and peacefully – through this initial phase of your treatment.
An immediate, gratifying, and very noticeable benefit of the detox process here at PVRC will be a decrease in cravings for your drink or drug of choice. As the substance leaves your system, so too will your need to ingest it in an addictive manner. The PVRC Team’s intention is both to stabilize our clients at this tender juncture, and prepare them for the road ahead.
However your treatment is initiated and designed, the goal of your Detox at Pacific View Recovery will remain the same: to cleanse your body, ease your mind, and fill your heart with gratitude, hope, and self-love as you embark upon this journey of recovery.
